The Optimization Module can be used in order to determine input parameters in a model so that the output of the model matches experimental data. This type of problem is referred to as parameter estimation and is one of the most challenging optimization problems to solve. The Optimization Module can be used for parameter estimation for stationary, time-dependent, and space-dependent parameter values.

Kristian E. Jensen is part of the optimization group at COMSOL. He studied at the Technical University of Denmark, where he worked on topology optimization and differential constitutive equations for viscoelastic flow. He then focused on the combination of mesh adaptation and topology optimization at Imperial College London.
