Hello, everyone!

I am very confused when try to solve a PDE problem. There is a function setting of "discretization" in "PDE" panel in program GUI, and several options can be selected, such as "linear"," quadratic", et,al. The location of the setting in program is marked in the jpg file below. Differential compute result could be got if use differential option. so what is these result mean? which one is correct? And how to choose from the options? Maybe it is a solve method or precision controlling?

thanks!

youf.

Hi

it depends on the polynomial order used to define your shpaes, if you use linear you can get 1st order derivatives, if you use 2order you can get access to two derivatives and you have normally a better precision for a given mesh density, at the cost of additional DoF's to solve (intermediate points)

Good luck
