Introductory Video Series on How to Build Geometries in COMSOL®

This video series is an introduction to building a geometry using only the COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software. Here, you will learn how to create 2D and 3D geometries, expand 2D geometries into 3D objects, and convert 3D geometries into their 2D equivalents. Although we primarily focus on the spatial dimensions previously mentioned, the workflow, fundamentals, and best practices discussed are also applicable for creating geometries in 1D, 1D axisymmetric, or 2D axisymmetric model components.

In each video chapter, we show you how to create a geometry from scratch, using a variety of examples. This process includes creating geometric primitives, adding geometric operations, using work planes, performing work plane operations, and defining parameters for use throughout your geometry sequence. Additionally, we discuss the best approach for creating a geometry, depending on its design, as well as the specialized tools developed for specific cases of geometry creation.

After watching this tutorial series, you will know how to use several of the geometry-related tools and functionality in the software and how to build any composite geometry from start to finish within the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling environment. It's also important to understand how the objects you create are treated within the software, so we recommend watching our tutorial video on the Form Union and Form Assembly methods. This video provides an in-depth introduction to how each method treats a collection of geometric objects and how this will affect other steps in your modeling workflow, such as when meshing a geometry or defining the physics.
