Long simulations - Ram memorry

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I am using a 3D simulation with Comsol 4.0a.

In the simulation i built a 3D rectangular SOI (silicon on insulator) optical coupler (made out of 2 planar Si waveguides on a silica substrate).

In the simulation i need to find the length in witch the power is splitting 50%-50% between the waveguides as function of the gap between them . (each time i run the simulation for different gap size)

When i got to long length (more then 25 um- while i need to reach ~70um) the simulation stuck around 78% (progress linear solver). The memory used in Comsol shows:

2.5G B working set, and 2.5GB VM.

I am using Core i5 2.8GHz, 4GB Ram with win7 64bit,

Am i doing something wrong ?
Does an extra Ram (lets say 8 GB ) would be helpful? or do i need a better CPU ?i see that it didnt use all my 4GB ...

Thanks for your help

Ran
